Hats and Smiles

Sun, smiles, temples and straw hats.
The Prambanan temples are some huge buildings built by hundreds of years old stone. It was an amazing day to explore the sight with all its different angles, corners and perspectives.
Part of the Perfspots exploration team was Simone. We have been equipped with plenty of water, some snacks, the cameras and of course the traditional Lombok straw hats. It was an amazing day and the best part was to explore the less crowded, less popular temples in the area.

Explore the Temples!

An early morning wake up to explore the Prambanan Temple and all the temples surrounding it. We have ordered a taxi directly to the hotel which brought us to the Prambanan Temple area. Arriving there, obviously we where not the only ones. But it was not crowded because the Prambanan Temple is pretty large and the tourists visiting it spread out over the sight. I documented our experience on this Travel Vlog. It was an insanely hot day but we decided to walk to the other temples behind the Prambanan. We noticed, most tourists only visit the main attraction and do not visit the other attractions. We highly recommend you to check the others out as well. Exploring the Candi Sewu, Candi Bubrah and the Candi Lumbung was amazing. Walking through the abandoned sights really felt like walking in a indiana jones movie! Especially the Candi Lumbung was fascinating with its unique architecture and chambers.

Coffee over Yogyakarta’s roofs

hotel coffee

Twelfth floor. A nice red wing chair. A huge window. Beautiful view over Yogyakarta. Small but well designed lounge table. But most important, complementary coffee!

Check out the Hotel

yogya

Every day, the first thing when i got up was booting the coffee machine.

A good hot steaming cup of coffee in front of this view: an absolute perfect spot!

Also before heading to the pool of course!

hotel coffee

There is no better combination than enjoying calmly a cup of coffee while overlooking a busy city. How people hurry to go to work and mind their business. Cars and Scooters driving up and down. Street vendors and businessman crossing their ways. All while time seems to stand still for you holding the cup.

The Hotel Vlog

Arriving in Yogyakarta we have been overwhelmed by the traffic. Scooters, cars, coaches. Then we arrived. The lobby boy opened the doors and carried our luggage inside. First impression: a really fancy Lobby! comfy lounge chairs. diamonds hanging from the ceiling and a delicious welcome drink. That was a nice arrival. But wait for the hotel room the view of Yogya or Jogja, however you want to call it, was stunning!

The Magic of the Taman Sari

taman sari

Taman Sari is a water castle in Yogyakarta. It is called water castle because the sultan that built that castle enjoyed three swimming pools in there. One of them only for himself, one for the guests and one for the kids. Besides the castle there are mystic underground tunnels leading to hidden rooms! It was an adventure to explore this place

The Taman Sari water castle Vlog

The Taman Sari Water Castle in Yogyakarta is one of the most famous sights in the city. It is known for the “instagrammable” spots, which means spots you can take great pictures for Instagram. This fact that visitors love to take pictures there simply means that it is a very aesthetic place. And it definitely is! The architecture of the castle, the tunnel and the surrounding buildings is simply fantastic. This place is called water castle because it has three swimming pools in it. One for the sultan, one for the guests and the third for the children. Besides the castle itself there is a tunnel which leads to a shrine called “Sumur Gumuling” which is well known for its patio where four stairs led to a platform in the middle. this is where you want to stand and take a photo and it is also a spot i will always keep in remembrance.

This Temple is huge and accompanied by three more sights. This Tree perfectly framed this construction built hundreds of years ago. Also besides a perfect photo spot this tree threw some shade which was very useful and relaxing on this super hot day.

Filtering the milk

tofu

This is how tofu is produced in Indonesia. From importing the doy beans to forming a tofu block. We learned about the production process in a factory in Magelang Indonesia.

Do you like tofu?

The Tofu production Vlog

You might ask yourself what is tofu made from? We have been curious too and decided to visit a local tofu factory. We initially traveled to the area of Magelang to visit the Borobodur temple but afterwards we decided to learn more about the local economy. This is how they produce the tofu in Indonesia. They showed us the whole process, from importing the soy beans to pressing the blocks and selling it to the market. Some machines are interestingly improvised and some processes are well thought out. It was a very interesting visit, to see how the soy beans goes through the different process until it becomes a well shaped tofu block.

Carnival in Jogja

carnival yogyakarta

While strolling through Yogya city in Indonesia we stumbled upon a huge carnival taking place at the Malioboro street! i know how such a carnival looks like in my home country but i’ve never experienced it in a foreign country. So we decided to sit into a coffee shop with an elevated balcony and enjoyed the parade from up there.

Swipe right to see the video trailer of the carnival. The full vlog is up on the tube!

The Carnival Vlog

While strolling along the streets of Jogjakarta we accidentally stumbled upon a huge carnival at the Malioboro street. We discoverd a coffeeshop with a nice elevated balcony on which we sat down, ordered a cappuccino and an iced latte, to enjoy the carnival parade from up there. It was amazing to marvel at the different costumes, formations and choreography they presented at this carnival. Different instruments, lots of colors and costumes! A highlight were the traditional carriage with horses or dogcarts however you want to call it. Jogjakarta is well known for its retro carriage pushed by horses through the city and it was nice to see them implemented in the parade as well.

The Uluwatu Vlog

After the terrible experience of walking in the streets (especially by night) of Uluwatu we decided to rent a scooter to cruise around. I have a international motorcycle license and a couple of years of driving experience. Neverthless things went crazy, watch what happened. On the scooter we explored the Uluwatu temple, Padang Padang Beach and enjoyed a wonderful Sunset in the Single Fin Bar.

Malioboro street in Yogyakarta

malioboro street

Stumbled upon the Marlioboro street which was pretty lively and busy. We entered a Yogyakarta mall and ate at local restaurants. Explored the street markets and explored what the street food stands had to offer. The day ended with a quick workout at the rooftop gym of the hotel and the refreshing dip in to the rooftop pool, which was illuminated in different colors. Dinner in a fancy Italian styled Restaurant with chilly live music.
