The Tuktuk Nap

tuktuk driver

Back from the countryside adventures of Jawa Indonesia we dove right into the city life of Yogyakarta. Massive traffic, street vendors, shopping malls and busy people surrounding us. Traveling from a slowed down place to a bigger city really makes you feel the change of mood. I’m not pointing out to the negative effects only. City life can really energize you, bring flow to your routine and new dynamics compared to a much more relaxed place like the countryside.

This dude sleeping deeply relaxed on his tuktuk shows us that city life can be pretty tiring too. Do you take naps on a busy day?

The Yogyakarta Vlog

We have left the area of Magelang and drove with our driver to the hotel we have previously booked in Yogyakarta. The city name is sometimes written Yogyakarta and sometimes Jogjakarta, don’t ask me why. If you know what’s the difference, write me in the commends please. So we have been sitting in that car and it started to rain heavily. Luckily we haven’t been outside for sightseeing.

Arriving in Yogyakarta we have been overwhelmed by the traffic. Scooters, cars, coaches. Then we arrived. The lobby boy opened the doors and carried our luggage inside. First impression: a really fancy Lobby! comfy lounge chairs. diamonds hanging from the ceiling and a delicious welcome drink. That was a nice arrival. But wait for the hotel room the view of Yogya or Jogja, however you want to call it, was stunning!

The Amata Vlog

It was a day without plans. We have realized that there are no other guests staying at our hotel. So we decided to enjoy the hotel and its infrastructure to the fullest. A bit of drone flying practice. Jumping and diving into the pool and splashing as high as possible. I mean there were no other guests. So it was kind of like our private hotel. We have stayed at the Amata Borobodur resort (linked down in the description) close to the Borobodur temple, in Yogyakarta, on a island called Jawa in Indonesia. After this day we packed our stuff and headed back to Yogyakarta, on the way we stopped at some pretty interesting sights, vlogs soon to come.

Setting up the controller to operate the drone. It is kind of a ritual, starting the battery, starting the controller, connect and set up the phone and the app: ready to start.

We left Nusa Dua and went on a taxi ride to Uluwatu in the south of Bali. There we found the Bingin beach which is an absolute perfspot! watch us surf and enjoy the cafes built on the hill.

A Gerupuk view

gerupuk view

When we arrived in Kuta, Lombok the first thing, we grabbed a scooter to drive up a hill in Gerupuk. The sun was setting so we had this breathtaking view for couple of minutes before heading back in the dark.
Ps. There are no street lights and paved roads.

Lombok is an island with stunning coastlines and the views from Gerupuk Hill are probably the most beautiful ones! you don’t believe it? watch the travel vlog and let me know in the comments what you think. – After checking in to our Hotel, which is close to Kuta in Lombok, we left for a quick dinner. Quick because it was already late afternoon and we planned to discover the coast of Lombok around Kuta. With no plans at all we drove along dusty bumpy roads and ended up in Gerupuk. Gerupuk is well known for its surf spots. Checking out the bay we discovered this huge hill right behind Gerupuk. This is not a “well known” tripadvisor-rated viewpoint. Its simply a hill without any tourists. But the view on the coast is probably the most beautiful you’ll experience.

Indonesian Tobacco Plantation

tobacco plantage

Whilst visiting the chicken church, a tofu factory we also visited this tobacco plantation.

They collect the plants and dry them on those wooden grids. After the tobacco plants are dry enough they stack multiple grids on top of each other and carry them to the factory where the plants are processed to cigarettes and tobacco packs.

This dude right here looks pretty happy doing his job. Nevertheless keep in mind smoking harms your health!

Do you smoke? Did you know how they process your cigarettes?

The Tofu factory Vlog

You might ask yourself what is tofu made from? We have been curious too and decided to visit a local tofu factory. We initially traveled to the area of Magelang to visit the Borobodur temple but afterwards we decided to learn more about the local economy.
This is how they produce the tofu in Indonesia. They showed us the whole process, from importing the soy beans to pressing the blocks and selling it to the market. Some machines are interestingly improvised and some processes are well thought out. It was a very interesting visit, to see how the soy beans goes through the different process until it becomes a well shaped tofu block.

Gili Meno Drone view

gili meno drone

There is a lake on the Island of Gili Meno where a lot of birds breed. The lake is not really a spot to swim but amazing to watch the sunset from a boat dock. From the perspective of the drone it looks like the sea and the lake will connect on high tide, which is not really the case.

How is life on a small island like Gili Meno? we spend a couple of days exploring all corners of this island. Some people live there but mostly tourists visit this island on a day trip on a boat from Gili Trawangan.

Climbing the Borobodur!

borobodur

It was one of the most impressive moments climbing up the stairs of the Borobodur temple. While getting closer to the top of the biggest Buddhist temple, we saw the pillars covered in fog. Everything felt so mystical.

The worlds biggest Buddhist temple close to Yogyakarta was the reason why we traveled to this place. The day before we discovered the hotel area, relaxed and went early to bed. To get enough sleep. because on this day we woke up at 04:00 AM to experience the sunrise from the infamous Borobodur temple. Unfortunately it was too foggy to see the sunrise but the temple was impressive and the fog made this place super mystical. So is it worth to visit the Borobodur temple? watch and decide for yourself. The Borobodur temple is a huge monument and is on the UNESCO world heritage list.
