After some days in the jungle of Sumatra, we decided to gift us some luxury and booked the JW Marriott in Medan. This is probably the most luxurious hotel in Medan. Living on a minimal living standard on an adventure and then checking into such a place really lets you appreciate a comfortable bed, delicious meal at the restaurant and a rooftop pool with a decent view. Whatever you experience, you experience it much more intense after the opposite lifestyle of mud, minimalism and mosquito bites.

Medan is a huge city on Sumatra in Indonesia. I have travelled for the first time to Medan. We haven’t spent lots of day there but had some time to experience the city, stroll through the shopping malls and feel the city life.

Stumbled upon the Marlioboro street which was pretty lively and busy. We entered a Yogyakarta mall and ate at local restaurants. Explored the street markets and explored what the street food stands had to offer. The day ended with a quick workout at the rooftop gym of the hotel and the refreshing dip in to the rooftop pool

Jarín Japonés in Buenos Aires Argentina!

Buenos Aires is a vibrant and huge city. With its different neighbourhoods, parks, museums, shopping malls, cinemas, restaurants, bars it is a must do! I have stayed a total of 2 month there and had a blast.

You will find many places to relax for such a busy city. parks to lay down, read a book and forget about the traffic noise.

 

I would recommend you going in the morning, it will be colder and less crowded. In January February it can get 35 up to 40 degrees Celsius like 95 – 104 F.

One of the parks is called Jardín Japonés and he is located in the neighbourhood Palermo near Recoleta. You need to pay a little entrance fee but in my opinion it is worth it!

The Park was completed in 1967 and opened on the occasion of the visit of the Japanese Crown Prince Akihito and his wife Michiko.

Within you will find a Buddhist temple, a cultural centere, a restaurant, a greenhouse known for its collection of bonsai trees, and a souvenir shop.

There is a big lake in the middle of the Park with two red bridges. Beautiful plants, a little waterfall in the middle and a lot of fish swimming around. The park is home to a lot of typical plants of South America.

 

Palermo is the place to be if you are looking to party and have a fun night out with friends in Buenos Aires!  Also you will find parks like this picture, with beautiful flowers.

One day at Cali Colombia, City of Salsa

A day in Cali!

I rented an apartment near the city centre. That day I woke up around 8 o’clock. I made my breakfast like always, eggs, ham, toasts and a coffee.

I payed 160 dollars for 7 night and my friends almost 400 dollars. So check out https://de.airbnb.com/ if you’re interested in renting an apartment. It is normally even cheaper than a hotel in South America!

At 10 am I met my friends that stayed at the sheraton hotel close by, which was to expensive for my taste. But of course I used there Rooftop Pool!

Hotel Four Points by Sheraton Cali, nice rooms, breakfast and near to all the good streets, with bars, restaurants etc.

At 10.15 we started our City tour with a little bus up the hill to the Cristo Rey Statue. It kind of reminds me of the one in Rio de Janeiro.

So from there we drove to the city centere to see the Catpark. In 2006 there was held a contest between different artists that had to create a design for one of those cats. It is a relaxing place next to the river.

Salsa Caleña, Capital of Salsa

Cali is the world capital of salsa because here the dancers of the 60s and 70s (Salsa dancers) risked to speed up the salsa music a little, because they felt it was slow. So since that time Cali is famous for its salsa Caleña.

Within the City you will find this monument for salsa. Las trompetas de niche. If you walk under it, you are able to listen to the different stages of the creation of a salsa song.

MUST DO! SALSA

So if you are in Cali, you have to dance Salsa! There are a couple places to take Salsa classes.

After a long day we visited two churches near the centere. The Iglesia la Ermita was in my opinion a really beautiful one.

Of course we needed to eat some traditional food so we got some Empanadas and ended the day with a nice meal in a trendy restaurant.

Empanadas what?

But what are Empanadas? An empanada is a fried or baked pastry in Latin America.  Empanada comes from the Spanish word empanar that literally means enbreaded.  Normally they are stuffed with meat or cheese, corn and other ingredients. Just amazing and a must try if you visit South America!

 

Wedding Day!

Also that week was the weeding of a good friend of mine. He married a wonderful girl from Cali. I had to dance Salsa with all of her friends and family. In this picture you can see, where the ceremony took place.

One of the most important spots in Singapore is Gardens by the Bay with its Cloudforest. Its an artificial forest which makes you feel walking through a forest of the future. We were for the first time in Singapore and super excited to explore this place.

How to get there?

Singapore is a country and city in the continent of Asia. It has a economically stable situation and is home for a lot of big companies situated in the city of Singapore. This brings cheap flights because of the business infrastructure. Singapore has its own airport and from there you get to almost every corner of the city with the metro. The metro works great and the prices are good. Feel free to grab a taxi in to the city and Uber and Grab are often used and accepted.

Find your way to Gardens by the bay or take the metro right to the station so called. The Gardens are beautiful to walk through and after a couple of minutes walking you will arrive to the Cloudforest. Close is also the Flowerdome or the Skywalk, also famous attractions.

What is special about the Cloudforest?

The Cloudforest is an artificial construction full of plants and an waterfall under a huge glass dome. It is really impressive to walk through and you can walk all the way up on a passage high above the ground and enjoy this futuristic place from different perspectives. It is an amazing adventure!

How much does it costs?

You can enter the Gardens by the Bay for free which is cool because you will experience a couple of statues formed with plants. To enter the Cloudforest you have to buy a ticket. The price for the entrance for an adult is: 28 Singapore Dollar. With this ticket you can also enter the Flower dome right besides it.

Bondi Beach and the Icebergs Pool

There are many options to go on day trips from Sydney. One of them is the day trip to Bondi Beach. This is the place where the famous Australian series called Bondi Beach Rescue was filmed. And as the name of the Series reveal it: Bondi has a famous Beach but the sea can get ruff there. It is easy to reach Bondi Beach with the bus. from the bus station we walked couple of minutes and arrived at the Bondi Beach Icebergs Pool.

This Pool is an iconic construction which is a part of Bondi. It is a pool built right by the sea and when the tide is high, as it was when we where there, the waves clash against the pool corner and wash the swimmers with salty water. Its was so fascinating to observe how the waves splashed up against the Bondi Beach Icebergs poolcorner!

From the Bondi Beach Icebergs Pool starts the “Bondi to Coogee Walk”. It's a coastal walk known a tourist attraction and its really a beautiful path to explore, you’ll love

Surf Bondi Beach

 

Bondi Beach is a well known surf spot. With the high tide and the decent size of the waves i rent a surfboard and tried to catch some wave. it was pretty hard to ride the waves because the current was strong and the lineup crowded. Neverthless it was fun to practice!

The Sydney Opera House

While landing in Sydney i experienced the most impressive plane window view i’ve ever had. I could directly see the famous Sydney Opera House right beneath the Harbour bridge. It made me even more excited to explore this city.

After landing you reach the Sydney city center easily with the train. We stayed in an amazing Hotel which we can recommend because of its fancy interior and it is good situated.

The first thing we had to do was visiting the famous Sydney Opera House! it is really an architectural masterpiece, no matter from which angle you look at it, it always shows up in a different shape. I also highly recommend to participate with an interior tour, the Sydney Opera House is inside as impressive as from the outside.
